What is Petite Sirah?

We’d be lying if we said petite sirah is just a smaller syrah. It is, in fact, more of an offspring of two grapes: the syrah and peloursin grape. Full-bodied and dark in its own unique way, you’ll mostly find this wine in the United States and pockets of Australia.

What Does Petite Sirah Taste Like?

A nice bottle of petite sirah will give you hints of blueberry, plum, black pepper, dark chocolate, and black tea. If you can wait, some recommend decanting the wine for a few hours to get the most out of its flavor profile.

Is Petite Sirah Dry or Sweet?

Petite sirah is a dry wine. This means that after the grapes are pressed, all the sugar from the grape is converted into alcohol by yeast.

What’s the difference between Petite Sirah and Syrah?

There isn’t too much of a difference between the two because petite sirah is made from the syrah grape. So, you’ll still get the moderate acidic, fruity but earthly flavor. The biggest difference between them is that the petite sirah grape is much denser, and it is therefore a lot more tannic, fruity, and bold than syrah.
