Don Julio is one of the original premium tequila brands. It was started in 1942 by Don Julio González, who began distilling tequila as a teenager in Jalisco, Mexico long before luxury tequila was even a category. He focused relentlessly on quality: tending his blue agave plants, refining production methods, and changing how people thought about tequila, from fiery shot liquor to something to savor, sip, and celebrate. The brand became a pioneer of the super-premium tequila movement, with expressive bottles and a dedication to craftsmanship that set it apart globally.

How Don Julio Is Made (Quick Primer)

Across its range, Don Julio tequila is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave, grown in Jalisco, Mexico, harvested by hand, slow-cooked to draw out sweet agave sugars, then fermented and distilled. Aging in oak (for reposado/añejo) shapes complexity and texture. The brand’s innovation, like Cristalino filtering and Port cask finishes, reflects a creative approach rooted in tradition.
